Hooters hot wings make a different kind of hot wing than you normally find. Hooters hot wings are battered. Most hot wing recipes simply fry the wings. But, by adding this crispy batter to the Hooters hot wings, the outside of the wing gives you more flavor and more crunchy bits!

Make these famous hot wings at home!
Ingredients
- 4 1/2 – 5 pounds chicken wings (cut into drumettes and flappers)
- 2 cups whole wheat flour
- 1 cup all purpose flour
- 2 1/2 teaspoons salt
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- Hooters Hot Sauce
Directions
In a large mixing bowl, mix flours, salt, paprika and cayenne pepper together, and blend well. Cut chicken wings into drumettes and flappers. Wash and drain chicken. Coat chicken in flour mixture; refrigerate chicken wings for 90 minutes. When ready to deep fry chicken wings, heat oil to 375 degrees. Place chicken pieces in hot oil, but do not crowd. Fry chicken wings until golden brown. Remove from oil and drain. When all wings have been fried, place in a large bowl. Add Hot Sauce mixture and mix completely. Use a fork or tongs to place chicken pieces on a serving platter. Serve immediately and with lots of paper towels.

I make my own sauce. I’ll melt one stick of butter then add one bottle of Louisiana Hot Sauce plus the juice of one lemon. I bring this to a rolling boil and that’s it. I like to use peanut oil for frying. I like to let the wings sit in buttermilk for a dew hours. Then, I’ll coat the wings, spread them out on some parchment paper and let them sit in the fridge overnight. Maybe a little bit extra work but the results really pay off. At least, that’s what the “eaters” tell me.
We love wings and Hooters definitely has some tasty ones. Now we can enjoy them at home!

I use “Hooters” breading found in the baking isle by the bread crumbs with the hooters wing sauce found by the BBQ and hot sauce.

I use a large saucepan with oil on the cooker top. Use a slotted spoon to drop wings/drumsticks in and to take them out again.
If you can find cotton seed oil its cheaper and better than peanut oil

typically at 400 degrees in a deep fryer 7 minutes fry time and let sit for 2 minutes before saucing

that means until golden brown moron. Time means nothing when frying. Its dependent on temp, oil, pan type and thickness, density and water percentage of the meat.

What temperature are you you frying at? If you are frying at 350 degrees, and you are using a thermometer to check, I would go for about 8 to 9 minutes. You will need to watch them. Your wings may be smaller or larger than what I tested the recipe for. If they are on the smaller size they need less cooking time. If they are on the larger side they will need more cooking time.

I tried the recipe for the first time [no Hooters in Israel )-: ]. All worked well, but for one thing. Even though the wings were coated with the flour mix it came out be a very thin coating, and then some came off when fried. How do you get a thick coating on the wings – that stays on, like you get atHooters? Thx Mike

I would make sure the oil is at a high enough temperature so it makes the batter stick. I often like to let the wings sit for about 10 to 15 minutes before frying to let the crust set up a bit.
Soak the wings in buttermilk for a few hours. Drain off most of the buttermilk and drop the wings into the flour. If you want thick batter, dip the wings back into the buttermilk and then the flour again. Put them in the fridge for at least 30 minutes before frying

peanut oil is the best for frying wings
I like peanut oil for frying meat. Personally I tend to go with whatever organic oil is available, I can’t determine a real difference when you are frying something in the same oil when you use it just once or twice.
I typically use vegetable shortening, as in Crisco solid shortening. I have also used sunflower oil and both have worked well.
Canola or Peanut is best for high temp frying

the hooters secret breading mix bag has a recipe on the back and says to use 100% vegitable oil
I like to use vegetable oil, or crisco because it doesn’t add any flavoring.
Vegetable oil.or peanut oil. Peanut oil holds a high heat content. So does canola oil.

Use equal parts butter and Frank’s Hot Sauce. This is excellent on the wings!
Frank’s Red Hot sauce is my favorite!
My wife and I have been doing this for 10 years! Franks now makes a Buffalo Wing Sauce but I still heat it up in a small pot on the stove and add the butter.
Also, if it’s a little too spicy for your liking, add a little milk in there to tone down the heat.

I use a mixture of bloody mary mix and Franks. The bloody mary mix has all of the ingredients used in traditional buffalo wing recipes, celery salt ect.

What Hot Sauce mixture? Your directions say add Hot Sauce mixture and mix completely but only ingrediants listed are for the coating for the wings.
It’s the last ingredient on the list.
