Easy Cheesy Tuna Casserole

Tuna casserole has to be one of the ultimate comfort food recipes. Tender egg noodles, creamy sauce, English peas, and more make for a delicious casserole the whole family loves. This recipe has some unique twists thrown in. We are adding Cheddar cheese to the casserole and finishing it with fish crackers on top.

To begin making this casserole, go ahead and cook your egg noodles first. Egg noodles are the perfect choice for this recipe because they are light. While the noodles quickly cook preheat your oven and assemble the rest of your ingredients. Did you know egg noodles contain more protein than regular wheat noodles?

This recipe for tuna casserole is so easy, once the noodles are cooked, you are simply going to stir everything together but the fish crackers!

About five minutes before you are ready to pull this out, you are going to top with those fun fish crackers and cook for five more minutes. Then you are going to serve this delicious, and cheesy casserole up!

  • Add a tablespoon of pimento for an extra bit of flavor
  • Add a drained can of mushrooms
  • Add Monterey Jack cheese instead of Cheddar cheese
  • Add a tablepsoon of pickled jalpeno peppers

Ingredients

  • 5 ounces egg noodles
  • 1 can Cream of mushroom soup
  • 5 ounces evaporated milk
  • 1/3 cup chopped onion
  • 6 ounces tuna packed in water
  • 1 cup shredded Cheddar cheese
  • 8.5 ounes English peas
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 cup tiny Fish-Shaped Crackers

Instructions

  • Cook noodles according package directions, drain. Stir in soup and next 6 ingredients, pour into a lightly 8 inch greased square baking dish. Bake at 350 degrees for 25 minutes. Sprinkle casserole with crackers and bake an additional 5 minutes or until thoroughly heated.

    .. I prefer my TNC without cheese…so make it without it. I just think its best to keep those flavors ‘ pure’..and the cheese sort of muddles it, IMO. Other than that, almost like the one my Grandmother taught me to make..MANY years ago. She added celery and a tiny bit of garlic, but all else is very much the same.. and she used a mixture of cracker/ bread crumbs for on the top. SO yummy. the same. I would request this dish a LOT. ..even asked for it for dinner on my 12th BD. ..thats how much I liked it. Still do, and I am now 50- something years young.
