Chocolate Cherry Cobbler

Cobbler is a southern dessert and likely where this one originated. This chocolate cherry cobbler is like a lava cake but so much easier to make and definitely as good to enjoy.

Recipe Ingredients:

This chocolate cobbler has so many great flavors including chocolate, cherry, and nuts. This dessert comes together perfectly.

  • All-Purpose Flour
  • Granulated Sugar
  • Baking Powder
  • Salt
  • Butter
  • Semi-Sweet Chocolate Morsels
  • Milk
  • Egg
  • Cherry Pie Filling
  • Chopped Nuts

How to Make Cherry Chocolate Cobbler

  1. Place the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and butter in a mixing bowl.
  2. Cut with a pastry blender until the crumbs are the size of peas.
  3. Melt the chocolate over hot water.
  4. Allow the chocolated to cool then add milk and egg and mix to combine.
  5. Add the flour mixture to the chocolate mixture and blend until completely combined.
  6. Spread the cherry pie filling into the bottom of a casserole dish.
  7. Top it with dollops of the chocolate mixture.

  1. Sprinkle nuts on top.
  2. Bake at 350°F for 40 to 45 minutes.

How to Tell if Cherry Chocolate Cobbler is Done

You can tell if the cobbler is done when the top is set and firm when you give it a gentle shake. The bottom will still be a bit loose since it’s full of cherry filling.

  • Almonds go really well with cherries but you can use any type of nuts you want.
  • If you prefer dark chocolate, you can use extra-dark or dark semi-sweet morsels (70% cacao) if you don’t want to the semi-sweet morsels.
  • This dessert is best served with vanilla ice cream but you can also add whipped cream or pour cream on top.

The best way to store it is to eat it!

Honestly, if you store it with a lid in the refrigerator, it will last about a week tops before the cherry filling starts to make the cobbler topping soggy. It definitely doesn’t freeze very well.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 6 ounces semi-sweet chocolate morsels
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 egg slightly beaten
  • 21 ounces cherry pie filling
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped nuts

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and butter.
  • Cut with a pastry blender until the crumbs are the size of small peas.
  • Over hot (not boiling) water, melt the chocolate morsels.
  • Allow the chocolate to cool for 5 minutes at room temperature.
  • Add milk and egg to the chocolate and mix well.
  • Add the chocolate mixture to the flour mixture and mix well.
  • Spread the pie filling in the bottom of a 2-quart casserole dish.
  • Drop chocolate batter randomly over cherries.
  • Sprinkle nuts on top.
  • Bake at 350 degrees for 40 to 45 minutes.

    Do you drop the chocolate mixture on top of the cherries, or do you drop the cherries on top of the chocolate mixture?

    here’s a super easy way to make this – take an angel food cake or non frosted yellow or white cake you can back yourself, and tear apart – layer the cake pieces, chocolate cherries and nuts – and don;t use finely chopped nuts. go with regular chopped or halves of pecans. then pour a mixture of cream, vanilla and 4 eggs over it and bake. you can even microwave this for 15 minutes. then nuke again for another 10-15 minutes
