Cornflake Wreaths

Cornflake wreaths were always in my home growing up. If you have ever had Rice Krispie treats you will love these cornflake wreaths. These festive wreaths are easy to make, and they take just minutes to prepare.

Christmas is truly one of the best times of the year. But forget about gifts giving and even holiday dinners; what really makes it so magical are the Christmas parties and cookie exchanges! This recipe for Cornflake Wreath cookies is not only delicious and cute but totally do-able even for those who don’t consider themselves good bakers. If you have never had a cornflake Christmas wreath before, you don’t know what you are missing. These wreaths can rival any Rice Krispies treat out there, and as a bonus, they are the perfect baking project for you to involve your little ones.

Making These Cornflake Christmas Wreaths Your Own

A simple recipe like the one below is the perfect opportunity for using a little kitchen creativity to create something unique and delicious. Of course, you can follow the recipe below to the ‘T,’ and you’ll wind up with splendid Christmas treats. But with a few changes, you can create something even better.

Start small with a couple of small one-to-one substitutions. Not everyone likes the spiciness of Red Hot candies, especially children, so consider using mini red M&M’s instead. Replace corn flakes with any other type of cereal flakes you prefer, such as whole wheat flakes or a sugar-frosted variety.

Add a new flavor element to your Cornflake Wreaths with extracts. A few drops of almond extract recreate the flavor of traditional amaretto holiday cookies, while a dash of peppermint extract gives your wreaths a wintery smell and taste. Companies like Bakto Flavors offer an extensive range of inspiring flavorings you can try.

A Quick Word About Food Coloring

Some people, especially children, can experience an adverse reaction to certain types of food coloring. If you have any concerns or plan to take these cornflake Christmas wreaths to your child’s school, it may be a good idea to use all-natural food coloring.

Alternatively, you can always leave the food coloring out entirely and create a decorative white wreath by gently tossing in powdered sugar. Another great option that may appeal more to an adult’s taste buds is to replace the green food coloring with a few pinches of powdered matcha tea and the Red Hots with freeze-dried or fresh pomegranate seeds.

Tips For Making and Storing Cornflake Wreaths With Red Hots

  • These wreath treats are not just for Christmas. Try pink food coloring and mini candy hearts for Valentine’s Day or orange food coloring and black mini M&M’s for Halloween. Be creative and come up with your own.
  • Avoid trying to make these treats on a humid day. To ensure these cornflake wreaths dry correctly, make them on a dry day. Once the wreaths are partial set, place them on a wire to dry completely.
  • Store the cookies on the counter in an airtight container for up to a week. Moisture is the mortal enemy of these treats. Only take out the cornflake wreaths you want to eat immediately and keep the others in the container so they last longer.
