The Taco Bell Baja Blast Freeze is a fun drink to recreate at home. This recipe is super simple, but it makes for a refreshing treat on a warm day.
The Taco Bell Baja Blast Freeze is a fun drink to recreate at home. Taco Bell calls this drink the Mountain Dew Baja Blast Freeze. I drank Mountain Dew in college mostly for the caffeine to get me through studying for exams. This recipe is super simple, but it makes for a refreshing treat on a warm day. Unfortunately, it seems that Taco Bell may have discontinued this drink, or it may only be being served in a limited run. All the more reason to make it at home.
Why Call it a Blast?
For some reason, Taco Bell seems to equate this drink to drinking a hurricane. Being a Houston, Texas resident for many years now, I have weathered a couple of hurricanes, and this drink doesn’t taste like a hurricane. A hurricane tastes a little dirty, it’s very wet, and it is often served with a side of barbeque, and some oil that is burning in that lightly used chainsaw. For me, a hurricane was really an excuse not to go to work, sit around the house without power, and to barbeque everything in sight because my refrigerator was no longer properly functioning. Does this drink taste like this, no – thankfully, no. It doesn’t even remind me of warmish beer. The Baja Blast is refreshing; hurricanes aren’t. Although it does give you a “blast” of refreshment!
Thanks to the reader who provided this more mundane explanation:
I suspect they came up with Baja Blast because they serve both Mountain Dew and Powerade Berry Blast in the fountain drinks, and enterprising employees mixed the two. Would explain the Blast part of the name.

Make your own Taco Bell Baja Blast Freeze
This fun beverage is quick and easy to make. You really only need two ingredients, regular Mountain Dew and Powerade Berry Blast – plus ice of course. I find this drink to be a refreshing beverage to serve up on a hot day, and it’s perfect to sip poolside. Even the color looks refreshing. For best results use cold Mountain Dew when you start, this way the drink will retain more of its fizz after it is run through the blender.

Wow people, get over the semantics. It’s her take on a drink, so yea it’s her recipe. Get a life! You do not need to be rude or use a foul acronymn for your name either. If you think you can create a recipe with a few ingredients that are easily accessible, then create your own blog. Otherwise keep your nastiness to yourself and let others enjoy this site w/o your drama. Gaahhhh!!

I kind of wished you had not Posted so it would stay refreshing.
So now I need to create a Keto friendly Baja Blast drink .
Keep up the great work. Most people appreciate the time and effort you put in to create this concoction for us.
Those that stoop to lower levels should bash their heads on a brick wall. I think they should spend more time finding Good Things in life than their negative post.
To your best day ever!

Aww thanks 😉

Title is Misleading, as it should say Baja Blast Freeze. This is technically not a copy cat recipe.
Lisa says
This isn’t a recipe. This is worse than the ‘Frozen Grapes’ recipe on the food network. You should be embarrassed.

I think the title was supposed to be “Taco Bell Baja Blast Freeze” maybe? Regardless, this is the recipe I’ve always used to make my own Baja Blast soda.
75% Mountain Dew, 25% Powerade Berry Blast flavor. A 3:1 ratio. One 12 ounce can of Mountain Dew, add 4 Ounces of Powerade Berry Blast. If you want to make it into the “freeze” version, do the ice in a blender part,or freeze some beforehand into ice cubes and add that into the blender with it to avoid watering it down. You can adjust the ratio to your liking if you think it’s off, however I think it’s pretty close.

I typically don’t like Mountain Dew, but I would love this. Perfect drink to sip pool side.

I agree, it’s nothing like the Lousiana Hurricane – which is red and not green at all. My hubby loves Mountain Dew. If I can find him some Baja blast, I’ll see if he’d like to have one of these.
Stephanie says
I will have to check out one of those, they sound very intriguing.
Tamara says
Aha! I was wondering what you used to give it that nice refreshing color. I’d love to try it!
Stephanie says
It is the soda that makes that color 😉
Kinka says
so where is the Baja Blast recipe?
Duke says
Exactly! WTF? This is NOT a recipe — crush ice and add soda is NOT a recipe. This is like saying the recipe to making White Castle hamburgers is to buy frozen White Castle hamburgers and heat them! Don’t say there is a recipe for Baja Blast when there isn’t one!

If you google the definition of “recipe” you get, “a set of instructions for preparing a particular dish, including a list of the ingredients required.” I feel that all of the above criteria was met. I truly don’t know what more you can expect from a very simple process.
