The Best Ever Baked Beans with Smoked Sausage is hearty enough to be a full meal or it can be served as a side dish.

Baked Beans with Smoked Sausage in a Dutch oven

Everyone simply loves baked beans. How can you upgrade baked beans? You can add two different types of sausage to the beans to give them more flavor, and you can turn these into a delicious meal.

What Types of Beans to Use

You can use whatever beans you have on hand. I love to add a variety of beans to this recipe because by layering flavors on top of each other, you get a wonderfully rich dish. For this recipe, I use red beans, pinto beans, and I also use canned baked beans as well. You could easily add canned white beans, black beans, or even Ranch style beans.

What makes this side dish taste like baked beans

This baked beans with smoked sausage recipe has a strong flavor influence from sweet and smoky beans. This recipe contains barbecue sauce, onions, mustard powder, and brown sugar. A touch of liquid smoke takes this dish over the edge. Two types of sausage are added. I have used a package of hot breakfast sausage, and 1 pound of smoked link sausage for extra flavor.

Can you cook this recipe in a crock pot

Yes, after you saute the onions and garlic, and cook the breakfast sausage, you can easily place the rest of the ingredients in your crockpot, and heat on low for about 4 hours. I do think this dish tastes better the 2nd day.

Hi Steph, I was wondering how I could make this a little lower in carbs ? I love my beans and Kielbasa Sausage but I was wondering if I could add low fat hamburger instead of the breakfast sausage ? Thanks in advance for a reply

Great bean pot. Try with all pork’n beans and see how you like it. Don’t drain the cans. You are so right about the 2nd day! Keep ’em coming, Steph.
