Instructions
Meringue Pie Shell
Preheat oven to 275 degrees.
Grease a 9-inch pie plate.
Combine the egg whites, salt, and cream of tartar in a bowl.
Beat until the egg whites are foamy.
Beat in the vanilla.
Add the sugar gradually, beating until stiff peaks are formed and the sugar is dissolved.
Spread the meringue in the bottom and up the sides of the well-greased 9-inch pie tin.
Sprinkle chopped walnuts on the bottom but not on the sides.
Bake at 275 degrees for 1 hour.
Cool the meringue pie shell completely before filling.
Filling
Beat softened butter with an electric mixer until fluffy.
Add the sugar gradually and beat until smooth.
Melt the chocolate in a double boiler over hot water.
Add the melted chocolate and vanilla to the creamed mixture. Beat until combined.
Add the eggs, one at a time, beating 4 minutes after each addition.
In a separate bowl, beat the heavy cream and creme de cocoa until stiff peaks form.
Fold the whipped cream into the chocolate mixture.
Spread the filling mixture into the meringue pie shell.
Topping
In a medium-sized chilled bowl, combine heavy whipping cream and powdered sugar.
Beat until firm and thick.
Add cream de cacao and mix until just blended.
Spread or pipe the whipped cream on top of the pie.
