Instructions
Preheat the oven to 350°F, or 325°F if you plan to use a glass baking dish.
Mix the pecan halves with 1 tablespoon dark Karo syrup and set aside.
Beat the shortening with the brown sugar until creamy.
Add the molasses, 2 tablespoons dark Karo syrup, and the chopped pecans. Blend.
Beat in the egg yolks and vanilla.
In a separate bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
Slowly add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, stirring until all ingredients are well combined.
Transfer the batter to an 8x8-inch greased baking pan.
Arrange the pecan halves that have been mixed with the Karo syrup on top of the batter.
Bake for 25 to 30 minutes.
