What makes the Big Mac Wrap so iconic?

The original Big Mac Wrap’s genius was its ability to capture all the iconic flavors of the classic sandwich in a convenient format. Our copycat recipe meticulously recreates every aspect of the original, from the special sauce to the preparation techniques. The homemade secret sauce provides that distinctive tangy-sweet flavor that makes a Big Mac instantly recognizable.

Using rehydrated dried minced onions rather than fresh ones gives the authentic McDonald’s flavor profile that true fans immediately recognize. The cooking method for the beef ensures you get that fast-food texture and flavor that made the original so craveable.

Big Mac Wrap ingredients and why you need to include them

For the Big Mac Secret Sauce, you’ll need:

  • Mayonnaise – is the base of the sauce, provides creaminess, and carries all the other flavors.
  • Sweet pickle relish – adds sweetness, tang, and texture.
  • Brown mustard (such as Guldens) – contributes a sharp tang.
  • White vinegar – offers the strongest kick of acidity to ensure the sauce has the right amount of bite.
  • Paprika – makes the sauce its famous color and adds a distinct flavor.
  • Onion powder – lends a savory onion flavor.
  • Granulated garlic – provides hints of garlic.
  • Ground white pepper – gives a subtle heat to the sauce.

If you can, use Heinz Indian Relish. This relish is more of a chutney than a pure sweet relish since it includes cabbage, red peppers, cucumbers, and more spices that enhance the sauce.

For finishing Big Mac Wraps, you’ll need:

  • Big Mac Secret Sauce – gives the wrap the signature Big Mac flavor.
  • Minced dried onions – creates the classic mild onion-y taste of a Big Mac.
  • Ground beef – the main protein for this dish.
  • Salt – enhances the flavor of the ground beef.
  • Ground black pepper – offers a more robust taste than white pepper.
  • Large flour tortillas – are the alternative to the classic Big Mac sesame seed bun.
  • Lettuce, shredded – adds crush and helps to bulk up the wrap.
  • Sliced dill pickles  – provide crunchy bursts of acidity.
  • American cheese slices – contribute creaminess and a bit of salty flavor.

Use low-carb tortillas to keep the carb count down.

Make other variations of these delicious wraps using ground chicken, ground turkey, or cheddar cheese.

How to make Big Mac Wraps

To prepare the Big Mac Secret Sauce:

  1. In a small bowl, combine all the ingredients for the sauce.
  2. Stir well.
  3. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and let it sit in the fridge for at least an hour for the flavors to develop before using.

To cook the patties:

  1. Place a large skillet over medium-high.
  2. While the skillet is heating up, divide the ground beef into four patties. You can form the meat into the shape of a regular burger or make it oblong and about 7 inches long.
  3. Season both sides of the patties with salt and ground black pepper.
  4. Be sure not to overcrowd the skillet and cook the patties to your desired temp. If you are cooking in batches, wipe out the grease between each and allow the skillet to come back up to temperature.
  5. Drain the cooked patties on a paper towel.

To assemble the wraps.

  1. Add the minced dried onions to a few tablespoons of warm water to rehydrate.
  2. While the onions are rehydrating, lay out the tortillas in a row on a clean work surface.
  3. Spread a thin layer of Secret Sauce on the tortillas.
  4. Finely shred the lettuce and sprinkle evenly over the sauce.
  5. Randomly add four sliced pickles for each of the tortillas on top of the shredded lettuce.
  6. Slice each regularly shaped patty in half. Stack the two halves or a single oblong patty in the center of the lower third of the tortilla.
  7. Sprinkle some rehydrated minced dried onions over the patties.
  8. Cover the beef with two slices of American cheese.
  9. Spoon some more Secret Sauce over the cheese.
  10. Fold the two sides of the tortilla over the patty and roll the tortilla up from the bottom to form the wrap.
  11. Serve hot.
