How to Make a Rio Bravo Margarita

On the rocks or frozen? This question often comes up when discussing the best way to make margaritas. Purists may turn up their noses at the frozen kind, but I think that a slushy margarita is ideal on a really hot day.

Frozen Margarita

  1. Place all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth.
  2. Pour into a margarita glass.

On the Rocks Margarita

  1. Place all ingredients except ice in a blender and blend until smooth.
  2. Pour into a margarita glass filled with ice.

Classic Margarita

A classic margarita involves diluting and chilling by shaking tequila, triple sec, lime juice, and ice together in a cocktail shaker. So, pouring the shaken drink over more ice will just make it too watery.

How Much Juice is in One Lime?

On average, one lime will give you two tablespoons of lime juice. As an alternative to fresh lime, you can use Minute Maid Frozen Limeade which is well-balanced between sweet and tart.

Then you could opt to squeeze in the juice from a whole lime or two for added bite. Limeade is especially good if you are making a big batch of margaritas for a party.

What is the Best Way to Serve a Margarita?

The most classic and elegant way to serve a margarita is in a chilled martini glass. Many cocktail historians believe this is how margaritas would have been served originally – most likely in the ’30s or early ’40s somewhere along the US-Mexico border (probably in Tijuana).

What About the Salt? It’s up to you whether you choose to salt the rim of your martini glasses. I think that a couple of grains of salt can actually help bring out the flavor of the martini. You can opt to only salt part of the rim, and then everyone will be happy.
