The first time I tried Arby’s Horsey Sauce, I sought something to enhance my regular roast beef sandwich. That creamy, spicy kick completely transformed my fast-food experience! What started as a simple condiment exploration became a quest to recreate this magic at home. After some experimentation, I discovered the perfect balance of ingredients that captures that distinctive Arby’s flavor. Now, I can enjoy that same restaurant-quality taste anytime without leaving my kitchen – and you can, too!

Arby’s Horsey Sauce
To paraphrase the commercial, Arby’s certainly does have the meats. While the fast food chain offers a large and growing menu, there’s no denying the roast beef roots that made Arby’s famous. The delicious, thinly sliced meat is excellent but is made even better with one of Arby’s unique condiments — Horsey Sauce.
What Makes This Sauce Special?
Arby’s Horsey Sauce is distinctive from the perfect balance of creamy mayonnaise and spicy horseradish. Unlike many copycat recipes that leave you with noticeable bits of horseradish, this version uses creamed horseradish for that signature smooth texture Arby’s fans know and love. With just four simple ingredients, you’ll be amazed at how quickly you can recreate this iconic sauce at home.
Why This Copycat Arby’s Horsey Sauce Recipe is the Best
Those who’ve enjoyed the real thing know Arby’s Horsey Sauce is delightful. But plenty of online recipes for it aren’t, leaving behind noticeable bits of horseradish.
Fortunately, this version solves that problem by opting for creamy horseradish instead, which can be found in the condiment section of your grocery store. Arby’s now sells a bottled version of their Horsey Sauce that you can purchase.
Ingredients You’ll Need
- Mayonnaise – Creates the creamy, rich base that tempers the horseradish’s heat
- Creamed horseradish – Provides the signature spicy kick while maintaining a smooth texture
- Sugar – Balances the heat of the horseradish with a subtle sweetness
- Salt – Enhances all the flavors and brings them together perfectly
Equipment Needed
- Small mixing bowl
- Measuring spoons
- Whisk or spoon
- Airtight container for storage
How to Make Horsey Sauce
This tasty, creamy, spicy sauce comes together in just a few minutes:
- Add mayo, horseradish, sugar, and salt to a small bowl.
- Stir well until combined.
- Cover and refrigerate for at least one hour before serving.
Make the horsey sauce the day before eating for the best flavor and refrigerate overnight.
How to Serve Arby’s Horsey Sauce
For a true Arby’s experience, drizzle your horsey sauce over thinly sliced roast beef on a bun. The creamy spiciness perfectly complements the meat’s rich savoriness. It’s also great for dipping fries, particularly the curly fries that Arby’s is famous for.

I can’t wait to try this. I’ve been looking everywhere for the Arby’s Horsey Sauce but it’s not sold so this is the next best thing.
Elle
Little too sweet for me, so I doubled the horseradish. But pretty spot on! 🙂
Stephanie
I am glad you liked it.

Me too Stephanie! LOL I am a Southern girl, and I do not care for Miracle Whip except in certain recipes. I am a Mayo lover as well. 🙂
Stephanie Manley
I am glad I am not alone in this!
Kitty Ward
Use Miracle Whip and creamy horseradish for Horsey Sauce. It’s spot on. Quick, easy, and you can adjust the amount of heat in relation to the sweetness of the Miracle Whip.
Stephanie Manley
I will have to give your Miracle Whip suggestion a try sometime. I personally only buy Miracle Whip when I make cole slaw. I think I have lived in the south for so long my arm only reaches for mayo.
VegasDude
No fan of Miracle Whip either, Except for 2 recipes I make Occasionally.
Old friend used to make Tuna sandwiches with it.. and sometimes I get a craving for it..
and in my moms awesome Layered Salad it is a MUST, Mayo just doesn’t cut it.. tried it.
Beth
Ever tried Duke’s Mayonnaise? It’s the South’s favorite!
Stephanie
Yes, I love Duke’s. I just wished Costco carried Duke’s.
Nunya
It may be the vinegar in the Miracle Whip that makes a difference for this. I just now started looking for a copycat horsey sauce (why it took me so long I do NOT know! lol) and I found another that is very similar to this but calls for 1 tbs of vinegar as well. I haven’t made either yet, but I think I’ll make both to the exact ingredients listed and let you know what I think of each! ^_^
Stephanie Manley
I will have to try this as well. I am so not a fan of Miracle whip though.
Minerva Moser
Miracle Whip is just mayonnaise with sugar in it (basically).

Im looking for the recipe for the jalapeno sauce from Arbys or the sauce they serve with them. it has raspberries
in it.
Nunya
Is it this one, hun? Bronco Berry Sauce? I know you said it has raspberries in it, but the only I found that says it’s served with their jalapenos is this, but it does not have berries. I’d still give it a try though! LOL

They used to have a berry sauce, I can’t remember what they served it with though.

What’s your favorite type of sauce served in a restaurant?

I enjoy something that has been sitting around all day that will make me go the the ER. So, I say bbq sauce
Stephanie Manley
That’s not so awesome, but ok. If you like hanging out in the ER, I think you need to find another hobby.

I have no healthcare coverage because my lifestyle choices had me born with an IQ around 70 with no family and I do janitorial work for minimum wage because that is all I am worth. Yes, Scott could accept Medicaid Expansion and I would have healthcare and save tax money by getting help much sooner, keep hospitals open, save jobs, and that would be awesome! In the meantime that bump on my back has grown 250 times bigger because I cannot see a doctor unless I wait for a health disaster and go to ER and cost 100s thousands in bills. I am happy with this humane approach Scott has taken as I deserve to suffer and die because I made bad lifestyle choices. In the meantime, I do enjoy horsey sauce and I actually lived off of 100+ packs a day when I lived in an abandoned car. Very good sauce!
Nunya
Wow, you’re probably the least funny troll trying their hardest to be funny that I’ve ever seen. Good job. Big ol’ sarcastic thumbs up to you!

We really enjoy a garlic black pepper vinegar sauce for shrimp fritters, pulled pork or baked chicken. We also use it as a basting sauce when grilling chicken. Just the right amount of flavor and does not overpower anything.

I have to comment on the Miracle Whip vs. Mayo thing. I use Mayo for everything EXCEPT for making Pimento Cheese spread. It just works better for it. And it’s really simple – just grate plain, boring American Cheese (as much as you want), get a tiny jar of pimento’s , drain them, and chop up the amount you want in your cheese, and mix together with Miracle Whip. Put in a covered bowl in the fridge overnight, then add more Miracle Whip in the morning (it eats up the Miracle Whip) to your desired consistency again. My roomates and I survived on this in College. Oh, I THINK what makes Miracle Whip different from Mayo is Lemon Juice in the Miracle Whp.
For ALL other things, though, I prefer Mayo.
Also…. I checked out “creamy horseradish” on Amazon… there are so many varieties… could you give me a clue on which one you ended up using with the Mayo, please? I’m a big fan of Horsey Sauce, and like many others, would have gladly bought it if they’d just sell it! 🙂
