Why This Recipe Works
This Whataburger breakfast burger succeeds because it balances rich, savory components with the signature creamy pepper sauce that ties everything together. The sauce provides tangy heat that cuts through the richness of cheese, bacon, and eggs while adding complexity that elevates this beyond a simple stacked sandwich. Using a hash brown patty instead of loose hash browns creates structural integrity, while cooking each component properly ensures every element contributes its best flavor and texture to the final masterpiece.
Let’s Talk Sauce
Bacon, cheese, eggs, and hash browns on a burger taste fantastic, but it’s the intense taste of the Creamy Pepper Sauce that brings everything together. Sure, the sauce has a lot of ingredients, and it is tempting to use a store-bought alternative or skip it altogether, but do yourself a favor and don’t. It is well worth your effort, and once you have everything you need, mixing up the sauce is easy.
After you fall in love with this sauce, you will save time by mixing up a big batch of dry ingredients. Store in an airtight container in the cupboards for months. Combine six tablespoons of the prepared dry mixture with a cup of mayonnaise, two tablespoons of minced chipotle peppers in adobo sauce, one and a third tablespoons of white vinegar, and a tablespoon of lemon juice.
Creamy Pepper Sauce is a must in this recipe, but it also tastes amazing in chicken salad, as a dip for french fries, or on salads.
Tips for Making a Whataburger Breakfast Burger
- Use a hash browns patty. The original Whataburger Breakfast Burger comes with three hash brown sticks, but they can make eating the burger messy. Using a single hash brown patty in this home recipe is more convenient to help keep the potatoes from slipping out from between the buns.
- Cook eggs in the microwave. Save space on your griddle by making the eggs in the microwave. Lightly grease the bottom third of a soup bowl with oil. Crack an egg into the bowl, season with salt and pepper, and scramble it with a fork. Pop the scrambled egg in the microwave for 30 seconds. Use a potholder to take the bowl out and stir the eggs well. Put the bowl back in the microwave and heat for 20 seconds. Check if the eggs are cooked. If not, continue heating in 10-second bursts.
- Don’t cook the bacon in the microwave. That’s just nasty. Instead, put a wire baking rack on top of a baking tray. Lay the bacon on the rack and put everything in a cold oven. Set the temperature to 425 degrees. When the preheat light turns off, cook for around 12 minutes more.
- Double, or even triple, the prepared Creamy Pepper Sauce recipe. Store it covered in the fridge for up to a week.

Before Guy’s Diners, Drive-ins and Dives, I “road tripped” from Denver to Amarillo on Sundays just to purchase bags of Whataburgers and return home. Many thought I was…. whatever… until they took the first bite upon my arrival. The franchise recently closed and no location existed closer than Texas. When you wanted something really tasty enough, it was worth the scenic drive. Â
Now residing in Texas, I look forward to making this unique recipe to take home to Denver for all to enjoy. Your website is phenomenal which substantiates the loyal fanbase. The photos totally depict the perfect copycat Whataburger Breakfast Burger.
Congrats on a great recipe in the creation of a beautiful and inviting presentation. Yes, this too would be worth a scenic trip!!!! Â Thank you.
Thank you! I hope you enjoy this breakfast burger!
