What Makes This Key Lime Martini so Delicious?
Can’t decide whether to have dessert or a cocktail after dinner? Mix up a Key Lime Martini, and you won’t have to compromise.
This adult beverage has the flavor of key lime pie right down to the graham cracker crust, but it also includes an impressive kick to help you jumpstart your night.
Sip this cocktail whenever you want something sweet and sour that is just a little more sophisticated than the average beach bar drink.
KeKe Key Lime Martini Ingredients
To make this Keke Key Lime Martini recipe, you’ll need:
- Van Gogh Blue Vodka
- KeKe Key Lime Pie Cream Liqueur
- Licor 43 Original
- Lime
Ingredient Notes
Van Gogh Blue Vodka is a vodka made from wheat. The bottle proudly calls it a triple wheat vodka, a reference to the fact that the source of the wheat comes from three different countries: France, Germany, and the Netherlands. Van Gogh Blue Vodka is not harsh but smooth, tasting of mild citrus and contains hidden floral notes.
KeKe Key Lime Pie Cream Liqueur, in its distinctive green florescent bottle, isn’t a mainstay for most home bars. However, its sweet and sour flavor that reproduces the classic Key Lime Pie in alcoholic form is the essential ingredient in this martini recipe. You may have to check out several liquor stores before finding it in stock, so a better option is to order a bottle online if your state allows it.
Licor 43 Original is one of the most popular spirits from Spain. Although the brand derives its name from its long list of 43 ingredients, the most prominent flavor is vanilla. Despite hints of spice, most people still categorize the spirit as a vanilla liqueur.
Possible Substitutions for the Different Liquor
The alcohol list for this cocktail is a bit exotic, but you can try these alternatives:
- Finding a direct substitute for KeKe Key Lime Pie Cream Liqueur is a problem, but go ahead and experiment with Sweet Retreat Key Lime Pie Liqueur or even Blue Chair Bay Key Lime Rum Cream if you can’t locate a bottle of KeKe’s.
- You can use other wheat vodkas like Grey Goose Vodka or Ketel One instead of Van Gogh Blue.
- Galliano Vanilla is a reasonably good replacement for Licor 43. But if you don’t need the subtleties but just want the vanilla flavor, try making the drink with vanilla vodka, and you can leave out the Licor 43 altogether.
How to Make a Tommy Bahama Key Lime Martini
To mix the cocktail:
- Since this recipe calls for fresh lime juice, you may want to use a juice squeezer to squeeze the juice from the lime.
- Add fresh ice to your favorite shaker until it is three-quarters full.
- Pour in vodka, key lime cream liqueur, licor 43, and lime juice.
- Pop the lid on and give the cocktail a good shake for 15 to 20 seconds.
- Pour the drink into a chilled martini glass, garnish, and serve.
Garnishing Your Tommy Bahama Key Lime Martini
If you want to get a bit fancy, you can try these garnishes:
- Run a cut lime around the rim of the glass and dip the rim into crushed graham crackers.
- Top the drink with whipped cream and sprinkle crushed graham crackers on top.
What To Serve With a Key Lime Martini
Enjoy this cocktail on its own, or drink it with a cream-based dessert. Vanilla ice cream or a NY-style cheesecake would be an excellent pairing.
