History of Wendy’s Frosty

When I think of one iconic treat that I have enjoyed my entire life, do you know what I pick? It’s cool and chocolatey and perfect eaten with a spoon or straw. It’s Wendy’s frosty, of course! I can remember enjoying a frosty from a very young age and I still love grabbing one every now and again. It’s a fun treat that instantly cools me down and satisfies my sweet tooth.

What makes a Wendy’s frosty so good? It is a super thick milkshake. You can never sip a Frosty until it is half melted with a straw, you always have to use a spoon!

The frosty was first introduced at the fast-food chain in 1969 by founder Dave Thomas. The original chocolate frosty is actually a combination of chocolate and vanilla. It gives the frosty a more mellow chocolate flavor without being overwhelming. The franchise does offer a vanilla variety of the original as well.

What’s in a Wendy’s Frosty – the Frosty ingredients

You don’t have to run to your closest Wendy’s when you’re craving a chocolatey treat. You can make a copycat frosty at home with only 3 ingredients! Yup, only 3 simple ingredients.

  • Chocolate Milk (ice cubes) – Don’t buy a low-fat chocolate milk for this one
  • Whipped topping like Cool Whip
  • Condensed Milk

Grab your blender and whip up a frosty at home. Just be sure to make a batch of french fries to go along with your frosty. (Because who doesn’t dip their fries in their frosty?!)

How to make a Wendy’s chocolate Frosty

  1. The night before pour chocolate milk into an ice cube tray and place the tray into the freezer. You want the chocolate milk frozen when you start to prepare the Frosty.
  2. Grab a blender and add 12 cubes of frozen chocolate milk, 1 cup of Cool Whip, and add 1 tablespoon of sweetened condensed milk.
  3. Puree until smooth and creamy.

Tips for making the copycat Wendy’s frosty recipe

  • The key to making this at home is frozen chocolate milk. Freeze the chocolate milk in ice cube trays the day before.
  • Freeze your whipped cream as well. This will ensure the right consistency for your frosty treat. I love using Cool Whip for this copycat.
  • Scrape down the sides of your blender to make sure it all mixes well.

There’s a site I go to that has a recipe for chocolate syrup that’s pretty close too Hershey’s. The name of the site is Hillbilly Housewife. Making your own chocolate milk could save on the calories and sugar.

How can the Frosty be so many carbs?
I guess I don’t drink chocolate milk that often. Where all the carbs coming from?

  5. ShirlR

Back when Wendy’s first came to our city, I loved these Frostys. There was a topping they used to put on them, seemed like it was a sort of white marshmallow sauce. That marshmallow creme sauce really made the Frosty twice as good!

WOW! with a calorie count like 520 a person would not want to eat too many of those in a weeks time. OOOFTA. Fat city here we come.
