What Makes Raising Cane’s Sauce So Good

You may not know what a Raising Cane’s is; well if you haven’t been to one, it is a fast food restaurant specializing in chicken tenders and this fantastic dipping sauce. They also have some of the best lemonade around.

The restaurant opened in 1996 at the North Gates of Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge.

What makes their chicken so unique is that it has never been frozen. So, these folks care about how their food tastes. All of their food is scratch-made in-house. This makes all of their food taste better.

What is Raising Cane’s Sauce?

This sauce is pure heaven. Their signature sauce was developed for chicken tenders. This sauce has the perfect touch of pepper and spices, and it has a bit of acid. This combination made in heaven is perfect for dipping crispy chicken tenders and French fries.

This sauce is made from common ingredients you already have in your pantry! It is made from mayo, Heinz ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and freshly ground black pepper.

Canes Dipping Sauce

Cane’s dipping sauce is unique, and I think it also goes great with French fries, on a hamburger, or even as a sandwich spread. This sauce is so good that you will want to grab some extra sauce there.

But if you don’t live near a Raising Cane’s restaurant or want to make a batch of this yummy sauce to have plenty for your meals, this copycat recipe is for you.

Homemade Sauce That’s Perfect for Chicken and Fries

I don’t know about you, but I am often utterly fascinated by the dipping sauces served when I eat. To me, this is what makes a restaurant dining experience unique.

I don’t always go to the trouble of making a fancy dipping sauce when I cook a meal at home. But this sauce is worth making. It is the perfect sauce for dipping fried chicken fingers, chicken nuggets, French fries, Texas toast, and veggies.

Copycat Raising Cane’s Sauce Recipe Ingredients

Here’s a list of the simple ingredients you need for making copycat Cane’s sauce. The exact measurements are in the recipe card below.

  • Mayonnaise – I suggest that you use Dukes, it has the right flavor, and it has a little more acid in it than other brands. If you can’t get Dukes I suggest that you use Hellman’s.
  • Heinz ketchup – this is what the restaurant had on hand when they created the sauce.
  • Worcestershire sauce – Lea and Perrins is my go-to brand here. It has more flavor than Heinz or less expensive brands.
  • Garlic powder – my tip here is to ensure that your garlic powder is fresh, your spices have been sitting around for too long, and they have lost their pungency.
  • Salt – Kosher salt is my favorite. The flakes of salt tend to pack more of a punch than the regular table salt.
  • Ground black pepper – if you can grind it fresh, your taste buds will thank you!

This sauce a very good base but was the bomb after reading the comments first. The addition of splash of vinegar/pickle juice, tad more ketchup, some dashes of Louisiana hot sauce, and Cajun seasoning. Boom bam! I used the vinegar because I didn’t have kosher juice.

I made this recipe twice now and the first time came out much better. the second time I made it I followed recipe to the T.

    here’s the difference I’ve learned;
use kraft mayo, NOT HELMZ Mayo (it has a way stronger tease and alters the flavor)
only use 1/4 teaspoon of Worcestershire sauce (add more if needed)
1/2 cup of spicy ketchup & 1/2 of regular ketchup. (optional or 1/4 for spicy ketchup)

I made this recipe and it was very good. My second making, I added to the recipe 1/4 cup chili sauce and 3 tablespoons of habernera hot sauce to give it a kick. Love it even more now

  4. Kynon

Hey! What Worcestershire sauce did you use? I happen to have Heinz… but I feel like it tastes very different compared to others.

  5. Kiana White

Hi I haven’t made this yet but I have a question, would using Miracle Whip be problematic to the recipe?

Halted the recipe and took others advice to add pickle juice. Didn’t wait too long to try the sauce and it was still good!

Well, it turned out great. I was following the recipe to a T, except for having cut it in half. Then I went to put the garlic in and accidentally used onion powder by mistake. I have to say it was delicious, I couldn’t imagine it being any better. So, I may stick with my mistaken version. Or replace it with garlic next time and compare.

I would give 5 stars if tweaked a little. We did a side by side comparison tonight. Very close when we added more ketchup so 3/4 cup instead of 1/2 it was exact as far as we could tell.

    Stephanie,
Add a tiny amount of distilled white vinegar to this recipe, and let it sit for 24 hours, and prepare to be blown away.

I’m so happy I tried this recipe! I made it, and asked my daughter to try it without telling her what it was. She said, “it tastes just like Cane’s sauce!” She actually ate all of her chicken using this sauce, and she doesn’t like chicken!

I just used this recipe and it was so good! I had some fresh ground pepper, but not much, so I ended up having to use so much more, but still, it’s really good!

It seems like i can taste dill pickle juice in the canes sauce so i was going to add pickle juice too!! Also i wondered if A1 or Heinz 57 might be added in the sauce instead of Worcestershire sauce. I made the sauce and compared mine to Canes and it seems like 1 thing is missing which might be pickle juice or the steak sauce. I tried lemon juice and a little white vinegar but still there is a tad of something missing that is a tad more tangy & salty! I think pickle juice might do the trick!!

Cane’s just opened a restaurant in my neighborhood last week, so I made my first visit yesterday. Was looking for recipes to dupe it

Haven’t tried this yet, but I think it could be improving by replacing the ketchup with H***z Chili Sauce and adding a TBSP of brown mustard. The sauce tasted a lot like a knockoff of cajun remoulade (makes sense, the founder is from Louisiana), and the quick version is usually made with mayonnaise, chili sauce (pretty similar to ketchup– made with Tomato paste , Vinegar, Sugar, Salt, Dehydrated Onions, Garlic Powder and spices) and mustard.

Maybe what you’ve got is about the same, but my first impression was chili sauce and wanted to pass it on. Thanks for the starting point.
