Why This is the Best Frank’s Red Hot Buffalo Chicken Dip Recipe
What isn’t to love about this easy buffalo chicken dip recipe? It has all the flavors of hot wings, but sometimes wings are just too messy to make. This easy dip lets you enjoy buffalo wings without all the work and mess.
This Frank’s buffalo chicken dip recipe is fabulous and simple. It has the perfect amount of spice and coolness, and you’ll find it hard to stop eating it – it’s just that good!
My big secret to this recipe is using Frank’s Red Hot Sauce. I don’t often call out specific brands, but regarding a sauce for wings, Frank’s is the absolute best. Frank’s Red Hot Sauce is very well balanced, not too spicy with just the right amount of heat.
Frank’s Hot Sauce Buffalo Chicken Dip Recipe Ingredients
With only five ingredients, this buffalo chicken dip is spicy, delicious, and addicting. Here are the ingredients you need to gather:
- Chicken – I like to make this with chicken breasts or chicken tenders
- Cream Cheese
- Frank’s RedHot Sauce – do not use Frank’s Buffalo Wing Sauce – it won’t taste the same
- Ranch Salad Dressing – I recommend Hidden Valley Ranch
- Cheddar Cheese
CopyKat Tip: Use freshly grated cheese. Packaged shredded cheese contains chemicals to aid in separation and doesn’t melt as well.
Buffalo Chicken Dip – Ingredient Substitutions
- If you like the flavor of Frank’s Red Hot Sauce but want less heat, halve the hot sauce and increase the ranch dressing to one full cup.
- If you really love extra spicy food, use Frank’s extra-hot buffalo sauce.
- For a non-dairy buffalo chicken dip, use non-dairy cheese substitutes.
How to Make Buffalo Chicken Dip
This Frank’s hot sauce buffalo chicken dip is really easy to make. Here are the simple steps:
- If the chicken is not cooked, you will need to cook it and then shred it. You can boil or bake it.
- Place the cream cheese in a microwave-safe bowl.
- Microwave the cream cheese until it is softened enough to stir, about 20 seconds.
- Add the remaining ingredients to the bowl and stir until combined.
- Place the mixture in a baking dish or cast iron skillet.
- Bake at 350 degrees until bubbly, about 25 minutes.
Crockpot Buffalo Chicken Dip
Making Buffalo chicken dip in a Crock Pot is simple to do and there’s only 1 step (unless you need to cook and shred the chicken). Here’s how:
- Add all the ingredients to your slow cooker. Mix well and cook on low for 2 hours.
Air Fryer Buffalo Chicken Dip
Did you know that you can make Frank’s buffalo chicken dip in your air fryer? Here’s how you do it:
- Follow the recipe instructions for making the dip mixture.
- Place the dip mixture in an oven-safe dish that fits in your air fryer basket or tray.
- Air fry at 350°F for 16 minutes.
Recipe Variations
If you like this buffalo chicken dip, there are variations that you may want to try:
- You can choose to use a rotisserie chicken. It adds another dimension of flavor and really breaks up well to give the dip a great texture.
- If you love the flavor of blue cheese, swap out the ranch dressing for blue cheese dressing. You could also toss in about 1/3 of a cup of blue cheese crumbles.
- You can also swap out the Cheddar cheese for Monterey Jack, Colby-Jack, or a Tex-Mex blend.
- Top your dip with a sprinkle of sliced green onions.
How to Serve Buffalo Chicken Dip
You can serve this tasty dip cold, but it’s best served warm. A great way to keep this warm is to use a Crockpot on the counter or to take it with you on the go.
If you bake it in a dish, use a thermal carrier to keep your container warm.
What Goes With This Spicy Buffalo Dip?
Serve up Frank’s hot sauce dip with celery sticks for a low-carb and keto-friendly appetizer. You can also pair it with other raw veggies such as sliced cucumbers, carrots, cauliflower, and peppers.
Apart from veggies, this dip can be dunked into or spread on crackers, crusty bread cubes, pita bread, or tortilla chips.
You can also use the dip as a topping for nachos or as a filling for wontons.
Make tacos or burritos with it as the filling along with lettuce, tomatoes, etc.
CopyKat Tip: Peel celery backs with a vegetable peeler for easier eating.
Make Ahead Frank’s Red Hot Buffalo Chicken Dip – Meal Prep Version
You can make this buffalo chicken dip 1 to 3 days ahead of time. Store the dip in the fridge, and reheat it in the microwave (stirring every 30 seconds) or slowly on the stovetop.
Can You Freeze Frank’s Hot Sauce Buffalo Chicken Dip?
You can freeze leftover Frank’s buffalo chicken dip in a sealed container for up to 3 months.
To reheat, remove from the freezer and allow to thaw. Then reheat in the microwave or oven.

I have made this recipe before only using rotisserie chicken instead of canned chicken. Turns out much better.
Sarah-A Beach Home Companion
I can totally see these ingredients (sans chicken) as a dip for chicken fingers. Okay, I have to get more Frank’s hot sauce, bye!
Jeanette
This is one of my kids’ favorite dips. I’ve tried using strained non-fat Greek yogurt in place of the cream cheese and it also tastes great.

I make this dip, substituting lower fat sour cream for some of the dressing and using canned turkey, heating it in the microwave until bubbly and heated through. Yum.

I would be more than inteested in taking part in your book review. Keep up the good work!

I used a whole Rotisserie chicken, and it was ALOT better then canned. I also used crumbled Blue and a whole bottle of dressing

My son puts this on hoagie rolls and eats it as a sandwich. He loves it and even got my mom hooked on the sandwich idea!

Substitute blue cheese for cheddar for more tang.

Ranch dressing seems to be a very regional thing. Down here in the southwest, we use it on everything! This recipe is fantastic both ways, even if one is a little blasphemous.
Stephanie
I have to agree with you about this recipe being good, and it shouldn’t be for oh so many reasons. I love this dip!
Lisa
I make this dip but use chicken breast and shred it…much better than canned chicken. Also, I add 1 cup of chopped celery.

Godsent from heaven! Thank you Stephanie!

I also make this dip but I layer mine. The bottom layer is chicken and Frank’s hotwing sauce. For the second layer, I warm together the ranch or blue cheese dressing and cream cheese on the stove and then pour over the chicken layer. Finally, I top with shredded cream cheese and bake in the oven. Same recipe.. just layered. I have had it both ways and enjoy the layered recipe more.
LaTonja
hi I layer mine also but in the opposite order and I perfer it layered…very yummy recipe.

i agree with buffalo momma…no self respecting buffaloian or anyone from the surround area ( born and raised in niagara falls for 34 years) would eat their chiken wings with anything less than bleu cheese…and please dont forget the celery and carrot sticks!!!
Leila
I make Buffalo Chicken dip regularly and everyone loves it. First off, I don’t use Ranch Dressing. I use Marie’s Chunky Blue Cheese Dressing. I also use about a half a jar instead of 1/2 cup. Second, I boil 3 chicken breasts and shred them. I also fold in the chicken and cheese last. Finally, I serve it with Tostitos scoops and it is amazing. Happy eating! 🙂
Maureen
I’ve had this minus the ranch dressing. its great on crackers and with celery. you can cook up a chicken breast or use canned both versions are great. i could eat it for a meal : )

What do you dip with on this recipe? Celery sticks?
admin
Celery sticks, corn chips, crackers, honestly this is so good, I have just ate it straight.
MisterH
So… I assume 1c means one cup as in a measuring cup, not 8oz as in a bag of pre-shredded cheese right?
admin
Yes, 1 C means 1 cup. This recipe is pretty flexible, you could use the 8 oz. of cheese.
zoet
1 cup=8 oz.
Kathy
I put in 4-6 oz of crumbled blue cheese and i use the perdue already grilled chicken and i chink it tastes better than the can
Buffalo momma
ummm….I have lived in Buffalo all my 30 years and Ranch is not what true Buffalonians put in their Chicken wing dip….we use chunky & creamy blue cheese like Rooties or Maria’s….and I personally put celery chunks in it too….just an FYI
xtc14224
Buffalonian here….and yes you do have to replace the ranch for chucky & creamy blue cheese dressing…also use a chicken breast and just cook in the microwave for a few minutes.
admin
Just on a personal note, I have swapped out the ranch dressing for blue cheese and it comes out well too!
