Ruby Tuesday Killer Kool Aid Cocktail Recipe

Remember those carefree childhood days when a glass of Kool-Aid meant pure happiness, complete with a stained tongue and sugar rush? Fast forward through college jungle juice parties to today, and you’ll find the perfect grown-up evolution: Ruby Tuesday’s Killer Kool-Aid.

This sophisticated cocktail captures all that nostalgic sweetness while delivering the complexity adults crave through Southern Comfort, amaretto, and tart cranberry juice.

Sadly, this beloved cocktail disappeared from Ruby Tuesday’s menu, but now you can recreate those happy hour memories at home. It’s the perfect drink for lazy poolside Saturdays or summer barbecues when you want something that tastes like childhood memories with an adult twist.

Why This Recipe Works

The magic lies in balancing sweet and tart flavors that remind you of Kool-Aid without being cloying. Pure cranberry juice provides essential tartness that cuts through the sweetness of amaretto and Southern Comfort. At the same time, the fruit flavors in both spirits create complexity that elevates this beyond a simple mixed drink.

Ingredients

Cocktail Base

  • Southern Comfort – Provides fruity complexity with pronounced apricot notes
  • Amaretto – Contributes sweet almond flavor and syrupy richness
  • Pure cranberry juice – Delivers essential tartness to balance sweetness
  • Ice – Chills and dilutes for perfect drinking temperature

Optional Garnish

  • Maraschino cherries – Adds visual appeal and extra sweetness if desired

  1. Fill a highball glass with ice.
  2. Add Southern Comfort.
  3. Add Amaretto.

I bet they removed it because it isn’t their recipe. We were drinking these at local bars in Chicago back in the 80s already.

I used to order a drink like this, called World Class Kool-aid”, years ago at a restaurant named Cheddar’s (different from Cheddar’s Scratch Kitchen). This is pretty spot-on, except the Cheddar’s version also included vodka.
