Jack in the Box’s Rice Krispie Shake represents the perfect fusion of childhood nostalgia and indulgent dessert creativity. This ingenious milkshake transforms the beloved breakfast cereal into a creamy, dreamy frozen treat that delivers both smooth vanilla richness and delightful textural surprises with every sip. The addition of marshmallow fluff elevates this shake beyond a simple cereal-flavored drink, creating layers of flavor that evoke the taste of homemade Rice Krispie treats in liquid form.

Why This Recipe Works
The secret to this shake’s success lies in the combination of premium vanilla ice cream, marshmallow fluff, and the iconic snap, crackle, and pop of Rice Krispies cereal. The marshmallow fluff doesn’t just add sweetness; it provides a unique texture and authentic Rice Krispie treat flavor that makes this shake extraordinary. The cereal maintains its crunch throughout the drink, creating delightful textural contrasts that keep every sip interesting.
Ingredients
- Vanilla ice cream – Use high-quality ice cream for the richest, creamiest base
- Whole milk – Provides optimal consistency and smooth blending
- Marshmallow fluff – Essential for authentic Rice Krispie treat flavor and texture
- Rice Krispies cereal – Adds signature crunch and nostalgic cereal flavor
- Whipped cream – Optional garnish for extra indulgence
- Maraschino cherry – Classic milkshake garnish for finishing touch
Ingredient Notes
Jack in the Box uses premium ice cream, so we suggest that you use a good quality of ice cream. We recommend Blue Bell Old Fashioned Vanilla Ice Cream, and our second choice is Blue Bunny Vanilla Ice Cream.
If you don’t want to buy both the marshmallow fluff and cereal, you can use the Frosted Krispies cereal. Make it the same way but without the marshmallow fluff. It’s good that way too, but not the same as with using the fluff and cereal.
How to Make a Rice Krispie Milkshake
- Place a cup vanilla ice cream, milk, and marshmallow fluff in a tall glass. Stir to combine.
- Add the Rice Krispies and gently stir them into the shake. Top with whipped cream and a cherry if desired. You can also sprinkle a little of the cereal on top.
Recipe Variations
- You can use chocolate ice cream and turn this into a large chocolate shake
- Serve with some Rice Krispie treats crumbled on top
I hope you give this recipe a try. It is one of my favorite recipes for a shake that comes from a fast-food restaurant.
Chef’s Notes
The quality of vanilla ice cream makes a significant difference in this recipe. Premium brands like Blue Bell Old Fashioned Vanilla or Blue Bunny Vanilla provide the rich, creamy base that makes this shake exceptional. Please don’t skip the marshmallow fluff, as it’s crucial for achieving the authentic Rice Krispie treat flavor.

While I have never been to Jack in the Box, I made this shake today. It was really good! I altered mine slightly: use 2-3 tablespoons of fluff instead of 1 and mix the milk and fluff before introducing the ice cream. Otherwise the fluff will freeze in a giant glob.
Surprisingly good. The texture of the rice krispies really goes well with vanilla ice cream. I’ve tried the marshmallow fluff and it just doesn’t seem to work for me. When I try to use the fluff, it just gets hard from the cold and sticks in a clump instead of mixing. If you want to use the fluff, try mixing it in a blender. However it is much easier to use the rice krispie treats cereal instead of the regular cereal.
