What makes Popeyes Biscuits so good?

Butter makes everything better, and these biscuits get the royal butter treatment. With a bit of butter before and after baking, you are guaranteed a rich and “just one more” addictively tasty biscuit.

Whether you serve them as is, with a touch of honey or jam, or as part of a dish, they are guaranteed to impress.

Why you should try this Popeyes Biscuit recipe

Stop serving canned or frozen biscuits! With just three ingredients and a spare 20 minutes, you can have a basket of warm, freshly baked buttermilk biscuits on the table.

These biscuits are so simple, quick, and delicious that you can share them with your family a few times a week for breakfast, lunch, or dinner.

Popeyes Biscuits ingredients

For this Popeyes biscuit recipe, you’ll need:

  • Biscuit mix
  • Buttermilk
  • Butter

Stay away from Bisquik for this recipe. Bisquik won’t give you the same flavor as the ones they serve at Popeyes. Pioneer Buttermilk Baking Mix is the closest you can get to the taste of the ones at a restaurant from a baking mix that is available in stores. If you can’t find the Pioneer brand near you, you can buy it online

How to make Popeyes biscuits

To prepare this copycat Popeyes biscuit recipe:

  1. Preheat the oven to 450°F.
  2. Measure the baking mix into a large bowl.
  3. While gently stirring, add the buttermilk on top of the baking mix.
  4. Continue stirring until just combined. You don’t want to overwork the dough.
  5. Lightly flour the working surface and scrape the dough onto it.
  6. Pat the dough into a rectangle about a half-inch thick.
  7. Use a two-inch biscuit cutter to cut the biscuit. Try to get at least 8 biscuits from the dough.
  8. Melt just over half of the butter in the microwave, and brush a baking tray with the butter. This step will give your biscuits a golden, buttery bottom.
  9. Place the biscuits on the buttered baking tray so they touch each other to give them more support while rising.
  10. Bake until golden brown, about 12 to 14 minutes.
  11. Melt the remaining butter and brush it on the top of the biscuits. Let the biscuits sit for a few minutes on the tray to firm up before serving them warm.

What to serve with them

Sure, you can serve biscuits with fried chicken (this Cracker Barrel Southern Fried Chicken recipe is delicious), but there are so many other ways to enjoy them. Here are a few suggestions:

As a bun for a sandwich. Upgrade your McDonald’s Sausage Egg McMuffin by swapping a bland English muffin for a rich buttermilk biscuit. Using copycat Popeyes Biscuits as the buns for Wingstop Buffalo Chicken Sandwiches will put the restaurant’s version to shame.

As the base for gravy. Few breakfasts are more traditionally Southern than Sausage Gravy. This hearty dish will power you up so you can tackle even the busiest morning. Too heavy for you? A slightly less filling version is meatless Sawmill Gravy

As a side for a hearty soup. Buttermilk biscuits are the perfect way to turn a bowl of soup into a filling meal. Start with a great soup such as Three Cheese Brocolli or Senate Navy Bean Soup. If you want, you can also replace the puffed pastry in Jason’s Deli Pot Pie Soup with a split biscuit.

How to store leftover biscuits

Allow the biscuits to cool entirely before transferring them into an airtight container if you plan on storing them on the counter.

If you want to freeze them, wrap the cool biscuits individually in plastic and then store them together in a freezer-safe container.

How long do these biscuits last?

Copycat Popyeyes Biscuits will stay fresh at room temperature for about two days, but they do begin to dry out a few hours after they come out of the oven.

Frozen biscuits will keep for at least a month. Remember to thaw frozen biscuits on the counter before reheating.

How to reheat Popeyes Biscuits

Perhaps the best way to warm up any extra biscuits is to cut them in half and then butter the cut sides. Place the biscuits, buttered-side down, onto a hot pan set over medium-low heat. The buttered side of the biscuit will crisp up nicely, and the steam will slowly heat the rest, ensuring your biscuit stays tender and fluffy.
